The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidence-based, auditory intervention designed to support nervous system regulation, reduce stress responses, and improve social engagement. Developed by Dr. Stephen Porges and grounded in Polyvagal Theory, SSP uses specially filtered music to gently stimulate the vagus nerve and help shift the autonomic nervous system toward a more regulated, connected state.
SSP can be beneficial for individuals with anxiety, trauma histories, sensory sensitivities, ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and other challenges related to emotional regulation and relational safety.
Delivery of the SSP is highly individualized and begins with an initial assessment to determine a client’s readiness and needs. While the core protocol typically includes five hours of listening, the pace and structure are adapted based on each person’s nervous system response. Some individuals may complete the protocol in as little as 10 days, while others benefit from a more gradual approach over weeks or months.
As needed, I prioritize “microdosing” and titration—breaking sessions into smaller, manageable segments—to prevent potential overwhelm and help the nervous system integrate the intervention safely. While some individuals experience no side effects, others may notice temporary increases in emotional sensitivity, fatigue, or other sensations. These responses are not uncommon and are addressed through close monitoring and frequent check-ins to ensure the experience remains safe and supportive.
SSP listening sessions are delivered in a structured and supportive setting, with the option for independent listening only when appropriate. This depends on each person’s sensitivity, regulation capacity, and response to the protocol. Ongoing communication between provider and client is essential throughout the process to adjust pacing, discuss responses, and reinforce co-regulation strategies.
The initial intake fee is $345. This includes a comprehensive assessment, the development of your personalized listening plan, and one full year of access to the Unyte listening portal. This access period allows ample time to complete the SSP Core program and continue with SSP Balance at your own pace during the remaining months of your license. Ongoing monitoring and individualized adjustments to your SSP Core listening plan are included in this fee. However, supportive listening sessions and repeated usage of the SSP Core program are billed separately.
Supportive listening sessions are available at $145 for a 60-minute session and $75 for a 30-minute session. The recommended number and frequency of sessions are tailored to your unique nervous system and its responsiveness to the protocol.
